Looking after your new kitchen
How do I look after my new kitchen?
You’re having a new kitchen fitted by us as part of our improvement programme. Your kitchen has been designed to suit your individual needs and circumstances and been fitted with good quality units, designed to last for a lifetime. We hope that it will make your kitchen more attractive, convenient and comfortable. You can ensure your kitchen lasts a long time and continues to look great by taking care of it.
Worktops
You’ve got a really durable and hardwearing work surface that’s designed for normal kitchen activities. You don’t need to do much with worktops other than wipe them over regularly, perhaps as you finish cooking or washing up in the evening, with a warm damp cloth. Its fine to use disinfectants but please don’t use a scouring pad or powder.
Please don't put hot items directly onto the worktop as the worktops are not heat resistant and may mark. Make sure you use a mat or chopping board if you need to put hot pans or dishes own on the surface.
Try not to get worktops very wet or leave pools of water on them for any length of time. This may, over a period of time, damage the surface or sealants.
Cupboard and drawer fronts and shelves
We hope that now your kitchen has been redesigned, you’ve got a better layout than before. Again, as with worktops, wipe over the units and fronts with a damp cloth and warm soapy water from time to time. Its fine to use disinfectants but please don’t use a scouring pad or powder.
Loose fittings, handles or hinges should be repaired as quickly as possible, to prevent further damage from occurring. You should report these repairs to your area officer.
Flooring
Make sure you sweep and mop your floor regularly; it's fine to use disinfectants but please don’t use a scouring pad or powder.
You can take the plinths off the bottom of the units to clean them, with a soft damp cloth but don’t let them or the flooring get too wet or leave water on the floor for too long.
