A guide to Homecheck

Homecheck is here to give you advice, information and support, and make sure you are happy with your home.

Who is it for?

All tenants will receive a Homecheck at least once a year; this can be carried out by any Group/Trust employee during the course of the visit. On occasion this may be carried out by your housing officer who will write to you to advise you of their visit.

Most people in Group homes live there happily. They have no great difficulty looking after their home, making the most of our services, paying their rent or claiming benefits, but some people find it a struggle.

Maybe you need help to cope with day-to-day activities, or you generally feel at risk or worried? Maybe you find it difficult to get the help you need? Sometimes we don't find out about this until it’s too late.

Why are we visiting you?

  • To make sure you are coping with your home and tenancy.
  • To make sure you are OK. To make sure you know how to get and use the services you need.

What will happen when your housing officer visits?

We will talk to you about:

  • Any problems that you may be having.
  • We will ensure you are aware of any services we can offer you and support you in accessing services from other agencies that you may need.
  • We will check your home.
  • We will check you are complying with your tenancy conditions.

Extra support you can get

This could mean:

  • Providing you with additional housing support.
  • Supporting you to sort out any problems.
  • Deciding how we can adapt our services to meet your needs.

Following your homecheck

Whilst the Group is able to provide various levels of support for a period of time tenants are ultimately responsible for ensuring they are able to maintain their tenancy in accordance with the requirements of their tenancy agreement. In some cases enforcement action may be deemed necessary by the Group if the tenant fails to accept support and cooperate with the Group to bring about a successful conclusion to any tenancy breaches.
