Things to do this anniversary weekend - VE Day 75
While we are all staying at home, protecting the NHS and saving lives our Communications team want to share with you some free things that you can do without leaving the house.
This bank holiday Friday and weekend, people are encouraged to decorate their homes and commemorate 75 years of Victory in Europe. Coronavirus means that people must stay safe at home, but you can still get involved by going red, white and blue and making bunting or flags to display.
The BBC will be screening programmes to commemorate the anniversary on Friday 8 May, including a two-minute doorstep silence at 11am and The Queen has pre-recorded an address to the nation which will be aired at 9pm. In partnership with the Royal British Legion, the BBC are offering a downloadable learning pack, live streaming throughout the day and an evening of music and memories.
From the 7-9 May there will be a Virtual VE Day 75 Festival organised jointly between the National Museum of the Royal Navy, the Army Museum and Royal Air Force Museum. They are joining forces to host a free online festival which is set to include talks from leading historians, a swing dance class and sing-along concert at home. The full programme can be downloaded along with an activity pack, which contains bunting to colour in and wartime themed recipes to try at home.

- If you do go out please stay at least 2m from each other
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
If you do need to leave your home it should only be to go to work, and then only if you cannot work from home, to access medical care, purchase essential shopping and to exercise once each day.
