Providing essential services - Care and support

We are continuing to provide essential services during this period of restrictions on our daily lives. This includes the delivery of care to many people across Shropshire, Staffordshire and Telford and Wrekin.

We deliver a varied spectrum of care services to our customers within specialist dementia and learning disability care homes and retirement housing with onsite care and support. Care can be simply helping with medicines to expert nursing for dementia patients.

Our dedicated care teams include carers and registered nurses and work across 22 locations throughout Staffordshire, Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic we have had to adapt and have implemented some changes to the way we work. These include:

  • The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like masks and visors.
  • Restricting visiting to our care settings.
  • Closing public areas like cafes.
  • Cancelling group activities, trips and excursions.

The safety and wellbeing of our customers is our priority and although these measures are restrictive it hasn’t stopped our teams being innovative. The cafés across our ShireLiving retirement schemes now offer hot meals delivered directly to apartments, and at the same time we drop off shopping essentials.

Social distancing measures are not stopping people being social either, with corridor quizzes, balcony aerobics and art projects all helping to provide interactions and help people to feel less alone.

Delivering nursing care is challenging but with the use of PPE our quality of care and expertise remains the same.

Each Thursday evening colleagues from across Wrekin pause to #ClapForOurCarers and celebrate the work of our care and support colleagues along with all other NHS and care staff.
