Newt homes are perfect for families
22 December 2016
The new homes have been built for The Wrekin Housing Trust by Castlemead who have also developed the remainder of the site as a new private care home.
The 17 two bedroom and 6 three bedroom homes have been designed to be secure and energy efficient and have private gardens and parking, perfect for families in the area. Layla Reed who moved in recently with her partner Jack and two year old twins Willow and Summer is over the moon with her new house and said; “It’s so beautiful here. We really love our first family home together and feel happy and settled. We had to share a room at our parents’ house previously so having our own space is fantastic.”
The development site is also home to Great Crested Newts and special measures were put in place during the build phase to protect them and their habitat going forward. This included their temporary removal and the erection of special fencing to prevent the newts wandering onto the site. New areas of habitat have now been created to encourage the newts to return now that work has been completed.
Steve Swann, Development manager for the Trust said, “We are delighted to complete and fully let these new family homes. They form part of our development programme to meet the need for affordable homes across the county. It’s great to see our plans become a reality.”
