New Donnington homes complete

Work has been completed on a brand new housing development to replace unpopular and out of date blocks of flats at the Common and the Glebelands in Donnington.

GlebelandsThe Trust demolished the blocks of flats, which were built in the 1970s, replacing them with 20 one and two bedroom houses built to high energy and sustainability standards, including new parking spaces, visitor spaces, and private gardens.

Neil Warner, Area Manager for the Trust, said: “The decision was made to replace the old flats to provide better homes in the area. The new properties are more in keeping with other homes and the finished site looks fantastic.”

The Trust has worked with contractor J Harper and Sons to complete the homes, which are available for affordable rent. The partners worked with local schools to provide opportunities for the children to learn more about construction and donated materials for a ‘building site’ project to improve mathematics and engineering skills in a fun environment.

Sarah Bradshaw, Development Project Manager for the Trust, said: “It’s great to see this site now complete, what a transformation. It’s regenerated the area and offers 20 families a fantastic modern, low energy, brand new home at an affordable rent.”
