Mental health awareness week - kindness matters

This week is mental health awareness week and this year the Mental Health Foundation have chosen a theme of kindness.

Mental health problems can affect anyone, at any time and one thing that we have all seen across the world is that kindness is prevailing in uncertain times.

An act of kindness doesn’t have to cost money or a lot of time it could be phoning or video calling someone who is on their own or asking a neighbour if they need help with their shopping. The added benefit of helping others is that it is good for our own mental health. It can help reduce stress and improve our emotional wellbeing.

It is also important to be kind to ourselves; many factors can affect our mental health like worries around health, finances and COVID-19. Try to spend some ‘me time’ so you can relax and reflect on how you are feeling, treat yourself to a small treat like some flowers or do something you enjoy like having a dance to your favourite tune.

The every mind matters website has some great tips and advice around mental health. Their handy five question quiz will generate personalised ideas for you to try.
