Did you know that they can be a fire risk if their batteries are damaged or aren’t charged correctly?

If you have an e-bike or e-scooter, keep yourself and your neighbours safe by making sure you:

  • Buy your e-bike or e-scooter from a reputable dealer. If you need to buy a replacement battery, buy it from a trusted retailer so you can be confident it’s not a fake product.
  • Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for using and charging your e-bike or e-scooter.
  • Unplug your charger when it’s finished charging.
  • Don’t charge your battery overnight or when you’re out or asleep.
  • Have a smoke alarm and test it regularly
  • Store your e-bike or e-scooter safely, making sure you don’t block exit routes. If you live in a block of flats, use the approved storage area if your building has one. Never leave your e-bike or e-scooter in a communal area such as a corridor, entrance or exit or on the stairs.

What should I do if an e-bike or e-scooter catches fire?

Fires caused by batteries can be unpredictable and dangerous. If you notice an e-bike or e-scooter on fire, you should leave the building and call 999 immediately.
