Homes England visits affordable homes in Telford

The Wrekin Housing Group and Living Space welcomed Homes England to their £7m Majestic Way development, located in Aqueduct, Telford. Anna Evans, Senior Planning and Enabling Manager for the Government organisation, visited the site to see how construction work was progressing.

All 39 homes have been purpose designed for affordable rent to help meet local housing needs. The whole scheme is scheduled for completion by summer 2022.

Paul Breen, Managing Director of Living Space said: “It was a pleasure to welcome a senior representative from Homes England to have a site tour at Majestic Way. This was the first development site we have purchased from Homes England, and it was very pleasing to hear that our programme timetable and quality are exceeding expectations.

“Annas was able to see a range of homes at various stages of completion, which showcased the craftsmanship that goes into every Living Space scheme. We hope to build on the success of this partnership scheme and continue our working relationship with Homes England.”

Anna Evans, Senior Planning and Enabling Manager for Homes England said: “This strategic site was first earmarked for residential development back in the 1980s and we are very pleased to see quality affordable homes being delivered at Majestic Way at a time when Telford and Wrekin need them most. Along with creating much-needed new homes for The Wrekin Housing Group’s residents, it was enjoyable to walk the site and hear about how many local jobs have been created and safeguarded by Living Space’s construction programme.”

A trio of Telford-based companies are undertaking the scaffolding, brickwork and carpentry work; Telford Scaffold Service; Prestige Brickwork; and M E Bishop Carpentry Ltd. Waldeck Consulting is the Employers Agent, PJA is the Civil Engineer, OEC Consulting is the Structural Engineer and Wolverhampton-based Stave-Con the Civils Contractor. The architect for the scheme was Birmingham-based residential design specialist UMAA Architecture.

The accommodation mix for the Majestic Way development comprises 19 two-bedroom houses, 18 three-bedroom houses, and two two-bedroom bungalows. Constructed in red brick, with feature render plots, all 39 homes have designated parking provision. The scheme is providing a significant amount of Public Open Space, a SUDS attenuation feature, and a new footpath to The Iron Bridge Way.

Jane Johnson, Project Manager for The Wrekin Housing Group said: “It was very rewarding to receive such positive feedback from Homes England on the quality and specification features of one of our newest housing schemes. We are enjoying working in partnership with Living Space and know that this conveniently located scheme will make a difference to local people’s lives by creating a new community of high-quality affordable homes here in Aqueduct.”
