Highley allotments come to life

At the end of last year our Clean Cut team revived overgrown allotments for community use in Highley, Nr Bridgnorth.

Working in partnership with Highley Parish Council the allotments in Hitchens Way are owned and managed by us and used by local people including our tenants.

Back in 2019 when the Clean Cut team first arrived on site they were met by weeds and ground which had become overgrown and unusable.

Mike Bolton - Clean Cut’s Business Development Manager

“It’s fair to say that this was no ordinary mowing job. The weeds, in particular the thistles stood nearly 6ft tall across the whole of the site. It was tough work but with the help of industrial mowers we got the job done.”

More recently, during the COVID-19 restrictions the allotments have become a welcome outdoor space for their gardeners and we wanted to share a few photos of how they are looking now.

Now that the allotments are in use we continue to maintain the pathways and perimeters of the allotments.

Community gardening projects and allotments are great way to keep physically active and can help combat loneliness and social isolation and encourage healthy eating. To find out about allotments near you contact your local council.

We will be checking in with the growers at Highley to see what they have harvested soon.
