Gas check compliance - please help us keep you safe

COVID-19 has seen many changes in our day to day lives and we all have to follow government guidelines and advice.

At Wrekin we have a duty to ensure your gas appliances, gas pipework, flues and boilers are in a safe condition to use. To do this we carry out an annual gas safety check at your home and keep records of each check.

Government guidelines and the law require landlords to continue the annual gas check service throughout these difficult times and our teams have risen to that challenge.

What if a member of the household is self-isolating?

Self-Isolation should be followed if you or a member of your household has symptoms of coronavirus.

You must notify us if you are unable to allow us access if you or someone in your household is self-isolating, so we can re-arrange the gas service, once you are out of the isolation period.

If you have symptoms of coronavirus, you'll usually need to self-isolate for at least 7 days.

If you live with someone who has symptoms, you'll usually need to self-isolate for 14 days.

What if a member of the household is Shielding?

Shielding is where a member of the household has been informed (by letter from the NHS/Public Health England) that they are more at risk from complications relating to coronavirus – so are to shield at home for a minimum of 12 weeks. Over 70’s fall into this category.

We are currently requesting appointments for our tenants that fall into the shielding category, but with strict social distancing measures in place.

How does social distancing work when undertaking your service?

Our engineers will keep their distance from you and you will not be required to sign any paperwork. Before our engineer visits it would be helpful if you clear the area around your boiler. Please wait in another room while we do the work and once finished, all surfaces will be wiped clean.

Edd Hall, Engineer and Maintenance Supervisor explains more:

In such a case, prior arrangements will be made to avoid any face to face contact, for example when answering the door. Our operatives will be up to date with the latest guidance on how to work safely.

In an emergency

If you smell gas, or if you have concerns about the safety of your appliances, you should call the gas emergency service provider on 0800 111 999, and switch off appliances until the gas emergency supplier, or our registered gas engineer, has attended and advised that the appliances are safe to use.

If you need to contact us at Wrekin to book or arrange a service please call 01952 217217.
