Arty things to do this weekend

While we are all staying alert, protecting the NHS, our Communications team would like to share some ways to get arty at home.

Our calendar art competition is now open for entries and this year we’re looking for bright and colourful images inspired by life on our doorsteps.

So, you haven’t done anything arty before? Don’t worry, this could be the excuse you have been looking for to give it a go.

If you are new to art or wanting to improve your techniques there are lots of free resources available to help you get started.

If photography interests you there are some great free online courses, Digital camera world have put together some of the best to try.

Fancy a more retro take on painting the BBC now have The Joy of Painting available on Iplayer by artist Bob Ross.

Lots of artists have been sharing their love of art on Instagram including Michelle Evans @roxwellpress whose short video tutorials include how to make your own paints from kitchen staples and guide you with tips on painting blossom and other botanicals.

Celebrities have been getting involved too, like Noel Fielding @noelfielding who has started an art club #noelsartclub.

If children want to get creative check out The Royal Academy’s website for family art activities like fabric painting and making your own paint brushes.
