Tenants Maintenance Awareness Days

Ingredients:

  • Profit share arrangement
  • Qualified Trades Instructor
  • Trust house Tenants keen to update DIY skills

Training our tenants to be confident in basic maintenance is something that has been very popular.

Awareness Days are at one of our Trust houses, free of charge, enabling them to develop simple DIY skills with a dedicated instructor from our qualified trades team.

There are two different courses, the first focusing on health and safety, with practical demonstrations given by the Crime Prevention Officer and the Shropshire Fire and Rescue team. The second day focuses purely on DIY, covering the removal and reinstalling of radiators (for decorating), basic brickwork, painting and decorating and fencing, amongst other things; ideal for people thinking about making improvements to their home.

This initiative is funded by the profit share arrangement from our supply chain partnership with Travis Perkins.

Results:

  • New skills for tenants
  • Tenants feel more confident in DIY including decorating, building a barbecue and laying a
    patio
  • Tenant gains a certificate at completion of training
  • Helps to decrease the number of call outs for minor repairs so the Trust can spend more time on dealing with urgent repairs
