The Tenant Services Authority
The Tenant Services Authority, is the regulator for affordable housing. They launched on 1 December 2008, having taken over the regulatory powers of the Housing Corporation. Their goal is to work with landlords and tenants to improve services for existing and prospective tenants.
They want to be "a modern and effective regulator, one that focuses its attention on the poor performers and frees the best landlords to innovate and deliver excellent services."
Their aims are to:
- Improve standards of service delivery for tenants
- Support decent homes and neighbourhoods
- Promote effective tenant involvement and empowerment
- Ensure providers are well run and deliver value for money
- Promote and protect public and private investment
- Encourage and support a supply of well-managed social housing
The Tenant Services Authority have now published their consultation document with details of a proposed regulatory framework. Housing organisations have been invited to comment on the proposals in preparation for a more detailed set of standards being drafted.
We - the Trust - held a Symposium to discuss the draft framework, involving senior managers, the Board and Tenants Panel. A response has been drawn up and forwarded to the TSA. A copy of the response is available here:
