What is Housing Support?

The Housing Support Service is a confidential service designed to give people advice and assistance to enable them to maintain their accommodation and live independently in the community.  The service is funded by the Government's Supporting People initiative and is free to Service Users.

The service is provided by The Wrekin Housing Trust's own Housing Support Workers for those with multiple needs, young people or those experiencing mental health difficulties.

What can Housing Support help with?

  • Benefit claims
  • Finding out if the right benefits are being received
  • Settling into your new home
  • Helping with applications for aids and adaptations
  • Money management
  • Maintaining the tenancy and condition of the property
  • Gaining access to support from other agencies

What happens when a referral is made?

A referral for Housing Support can be made by contacting the Housing Support Team directly or through any other agency.

  • In 4 working days we will confirm receipt of the referral.
  • Within 28 working days of the referral being received, one of our Housing Support Workers will contact the Service User and arrange an initial visit to assess support needs.

As there is a limit to the number of tenants we can support at any one time, during busy periods it may be necessary to register your referral onto a waiting list.

Priority is given to new occupants, and existing occupants who are at risk of losing their home if they do not receive immediate support.

Remaining cases on the waiting list will be responded to in order of when the referral for support was made, taking the priority assessed at the initial visit into consideration.
