Around 35 people die in the UK every year from carbon monoxide poisoning due to faulty gas appliances. By law, The Wrekin Housing Trust is responsible for making sure that gas fittings and flues are maintained in good order and all gas appliances are checked for safety in order to ensure this does not happen to our tenants.
What we do
We are committed to visiting all properties every twelve months, irrespective of whether you have a gas supply or not, and will arrange for your central heating system to be serviced. Our dedicated Gas Contractors and their Service engineers will visit to check your heating system to make sure that it is safe and that any faults are repaired.
This service is important for the effective operation of your system and you and your family's safety and also for the safety of your neighbours.
We are unable to service a tenant's own appliance such as cooker's or own gas fires. However we will check that the appliance is safe, any defects will be reported to you and the appliance will be disconnected from the gas supply.
It is the responsibility of our tenants to ensure that a Gas Safe registered engineer, of his or her own choosing, attends to repair the defect to the appliance.
Access for the Gas Safety Check and Service
We have an excellent system for carrying out gas safety checks on all our properties to ensure your health and safety. The only time we are unable to carry out these safety checks is when a tenant refuses access to their home.
Please tell us if you will not be home at the time we say we're coming to carry out the gas safety check, so that we can arrange a more suitable appointment.
Failing to allow access is in breach of your tenancy conditions. We can take legal action to gain access to your property to carry out safety checks. If we do this, you will be recharged any costs that we incur, including our administration costs.
Help us to help you stay safe - let us in when we need to check for gas safety.
Service Appointments
We can offer our tenants a time for our contractors to call that suits. Appointments are available on the hour from 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday. For those of our tenants that work during these times we can offer a 7.00pm evening appointment Monday to Friday or a Saturday morning call, which will be a non specific time between 9.00am and 1.00pm.
All of our contractor's engineers carry Gas Safe identification cards. You should not let anyone into your home without asking for identification first, if you are in any doubt, please contact us as soon as possible and we will verify that the engineer is working on our behalf.
Reporting Repairs on Central Heating and Gas Appliances
If there is something wrong with your heating in between services, you should report this via the usual methods and our gas contractors will attend and repair the fault.
