How do I know when my gas service is due?
If you still have your last gas safety certificate the next service will be around 12-months following on from the date on the certificate. If you are unable to locate your copy contact the Gas Team who will supply you one and will advise you of when the next service is due. Our gas contractors will contact you before your service expires to arrange an appointment for the check to be completed.
What should I do if I will not be home for the appointment allocated to me by the contractor?
Contact the Gas Team immediately who will arrange a new appointment for you on a day and time that is convenient. If you do not contact us and we are unable to gain access, We are will enter you into our no access procedure, which could result in legal action being taken against you. Our priority is to ensure you are safe in your home, to avoid such action; all we ask is that you allow us access.
What equipment is the Wrekin Housing Trust responsible for?
The Wrekin Housing Trust will carry out safety checks to all gas fittings and flues. We will not service any equipment owned by the tenant, such as cookers, hobs or the tenant's own fire however, we will check they are safe for you to use.
What do I do if my boiler/fire is not working?
Contact the Repairs hotline, our call centre will take your details and report the repair to our gas contractors. The repair will be logged as either an Emergency or Routine repair depending on the type of work required.
Emergency repairs will be carried out within 24-hours and a Routine repair within 10 working days. The call centre representative will advise whether your job will be classed as an emergency or routine repair when you call.
What happens if the gas safety check fails?
We will repair the fault on the appliance that belongs to us, and replace parts where required to ensure that your home is left in a safe condition.
If the fault is on the tenant's own appliance, i.e. cooker or own gas fire, we will disconnect the appliance and advise you to seek assistance from a CORGI registered engineer of your choice. It is an offence for us to allow you to use a gas appliance that is deemed unsafe so the appliance will always be disconnected.
Your safety certificate will include details of any faults rectified or parts fitted.
What should I do if I have not seen or received a copy of the gas service record?
We are obliged by law to ensure that you receive a copy of the latest safety check. Our gas engineers will leave you a copy of the record once the check has been completed, however, if you have not received or are unable to find your copy please contact the Gas Team and we will ensure one is sent to you.
I am Leaseholder/Shared Ownership owner; does the Wrekin Housing Trust look after my gas appliances?
It is the responsibility of the Owner/Leaseholder to ensure that their gas appliances are checked for safety and serviced annually. If you don't you could be seriously affecting your own health but also the safety of those around you. Please ensure that you ask a CORGI registered engineer of your choosing to carry out the gas safety check and service every 12-months.
