The Able Living Service

The service is offered by the Trust to assist those of our tenants & their families whose physical needs are not being met through their current accommodation.
Minor Adaptations such as Grab Rails, Lever Taps, Stair Rails & Half Steps will be fitted to meet your requirements.
An  assessment will be carried out for major adaptation requests, on the personal needs, the social aspects & the accommodation issues involved, to assist in making a decision about how to best meet the needs. The service will be provided to help the Trust to make best use of its current stock, while meeting its customer’s needs & expectations.

What is an Adaptation

An adaptation is a change to your home, which allows you to live more independently, or a change that will allow you, your carer or a family member greater safety & mobility. It can enable better access to and from your home.
It is not always possible for adaptations to be carried out and in such circumstances we will actively work with you to find alternative accommodation for you or investigate other solutions to meet your needs

What will the Able Living Service do?

We will check your referral and if necessary come & see you to do an assessment. We will check:

• What meets your needs
• That we cannot meet your needs better through other methods
• That you are receiving the appropriate information, advice and support
• What and if it is reasonable and practical, given age, type and condition of the property
• The proposal is within the Trusts Policy

The proposed work will be costed and depending on that outcome, the works will either be carried out by our contractors or we will advise you on alternative options.

Occupational Assessments

You can apply for an assessment directly to the Occupational Therapists and they will make recommendations to us.
They will make a recommendation for any adaptations that they feel are necessary to meet your needs and will then award one of 3 priorities for the work to be completed.
