The memory box garden
Our award winning garden from the Shrewsbury Flower Show 2010 was relocated to Hallcroft Close, one of our sheltered schemes in Newport, where the residents now enjoy its features on a daily basis.
The garden, entitled 'The Memory Box' received a gold award and then relocation work to recreate the garden at Hallcroft Close began shortly after.
Earlier in the year, residents of Hallcroft Close helped to design tiles at the Jackfield Tile Museum, which were included in the garden.
The garden received its very own opening ceremony with local personality and interested gardener Shirley Tart, saying a few words and cutting the ribbon. Shirley said: "I was most impressed with the design of the garden as it is both practical and versatile for older people to actively use. The low borders and shrubs allows for easy gardening, whilst the memory box area provides a restful and peaceful place to sit."
Pamela Edwards, General Manager of Supported Housing added: "I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who was involved in the garden from concept through to the design and build stages. It is lovely to know that the garden will now take pride of place in a community orientated scheme for years of enjoyment for residents."
