Following an amendment to the Asbestos (Prohibition) Regulations in August 1999, all types of asbestos received a total ban in the UK. This policy has made the "import and supply and use" of asbestos products in the UK illegal.
The latest legislation and guidance (Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 & HSG 264) places a legal responsibility upon The Wrekin Housing Trust - as a Landlord and Duty Holder - to produce a written plan to identify and manage asbestos risk in relation to "non-domestic" properties. This includes our flats, supported housing schemes, and offices, which are reinspected annually to check on their condition.
Although we will make every effort to contact you regarding important asbestos issues at your property, allowing access for an asbestos inspection or required remedial work is a condition of your tenancy agreement, and is essential under the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974).
