Trust shortlisted for Green Award
09 September 2010
We have been shortlisted for a prestigious Corgi Award, which rewards excellence in plumbing, heating and renewables.
We have been shortlisted with two other organisations in the 'Green Initiative of the Year' category, which recognises initiatives that have a positive impact upon the environment. The awards ceremony takes place this Thursday (9th September) at Coventry's Ricoh Arena when around 650 industry professionals are expected to gather to honour their peers.
The Trust made the shortlist due to green initiatives implemented as part of its sustainability strategy. Solutions including solar panels and ground and air source heat pumps have been introduced. To tenants in villages such as Little Wenlock, where there is no gas supply, these environmentally friendly solutions are much better than the alternative option of costly electric storage heaters. The solutions have also given tenants more flexibility, such as with seven supported housing units at Lawndale in Telford who have had individual heating systems installed to replace their communal heating system.
As well as offering more variable and energy efficient heating, such initiatives have reduced tenant heating bills, increased awareness of sustainable heating solutions and reduced emissions. The properties now also exceed the Decent Homes Standard.
The CORGI Awards are the only industry awards allowing heating and plumbing engineers to cast their votes for all product awards, uniquely ensuring all product winners are chosen by their customers.
David Hall, Head of Asset Management at the Trust said: "It's a great achievement to be short-listed for these long running and well respected awards. It's especially pleasing to be recognised for our work on green issues which continue to be a focus at the Trust."
This is the second time in recent years the Trust has been short-listed for a Corgi Award, coming second in 2008 in the Consumer Gas Safety category.
