School gets further boost to garden project
30 July 2010
Following a donation from us, a Market Drayton school has had a further boost as eager apprentices helped with building their new school garden.
The Wrekin Housing Trust has houses across Shropshire and Staffordshire, including nearly 50 in Market Drayton. Earlier this year the Trust gave a small donation to Market Drayton Junior School to help design and build a garden for the students and community.
Trust apprentices have now given further help to the garden project by helping to build fencing and features in the garden. Assistant Headteacher of Market Drayton Junior School, Laura Finn, was really grateful for the work that was carried out by the apprentices.
Laura said: "The children are really pleased. We really appreciate the help from the hardworking apprentices and hope that the links between the school and The Wrekin Housing Trust can continue."
James Prestwich, Area Manager at the Trust said: "We are really glad to be involved in this project which benefits children in an area where we have homes. The sponsorship from the Trust helped to get the project started and now the children's ideas and designs are being put into practice by our apprentices, which is fantastic."
Once finished the garden will be available for everyone at the school to use and enjoy. It will be centred around an ampitheatre style classroom, with log seating, a stage area and an entrance covered with a sail canopy. The children also decided on a summerhouse, a secret hideaway teepee, put together by the Trust's apprentices, and lots of plants including bamboo, as well as fruit trees.
