Trust apprentice upheld as good example
24 June 2010
A young employee of The Wrekin Housing Trust is being upheld as a good example of a perfect college student.
19 year old Lewis Perks has been nominated by Shrewsbury College of Arts & Technology (SCAT) as an ideal student. As a result, he will be profiled as a role-model at their forthcoming skills festival in June.
Lewis Perks, who is from Madeley, attended the Telford Construction Centre (SCAT) originally when he was only 15. Four years later, he's back at the college as part of his apprenticeship at The Wrekin Housing Trust.
The profile of Lewis will be exhibited at the Skills Festival, being held from 28th June to 2nd July at the Shrewsbury Quarry. The week long festival of music, fashion, drama, skills and technology workshops will showcase the students' skills and achievements. It will also promote the variety of courses and subjects available as well as raise awareness of the college's significance to the local community.
Joanne Green, Manager at the Centre says, "It is encouraging to see students like Lewis develop, and helps us appreciate the important role we play in the community, including providing local companies with good apprentices. Credit should be given to young people like Lewis, who are motivated to go and build a career doing something they enjoy."
Tim Munro, HR Consultant at the Trust says, "We're proud to have Lewis as part of the team at the Trust, and are delighted that Lewis's hard work is being recognised. We've built a great working relationship with SCAT, and it's proving to be a winning combination for us, the college and the students themselves."
SCAT and the Trust have been working together for three and a half years, helping young people combine education with valuable work experience.
