Trust is officially a Housing Hero

The Wrekin Housing Trust has been officially granted the title of 'Maintenance Team of the Year' at the 2010 Housing Heroes Awards.

Shropshire based Wrekin Housing Trust was shortlisted from more than 300 original entries from organisations all around the UK. At the awards ceremony last Friday 14th May, the Trust saw off competition from five other businesses to gain the prestigious 'Maintenance Team of the Year' title.

The Housing Heroes Awards highlight the people and teams that are doing great work in the social/affordable housing sector, and are organised by Inside Housing magazine and the Chartered Institute of Housing.

The Trust was announced the winner of their category by adventurous TV presenter, Antarctic explorer and Atlantic rower Ben Fogle, in front of an audience of more than 800 people.

Wayne Gethings, Director of Asset Management says, "We're delighted to have won this award, as it signifies our continuous focus on providing world class maintenance to our tenants. By successfully identifying efficiencies within the organisation, we've been able to recycle them back into the service we provide to our customers and stakeholders. We've used the savings to employ more trainees and apprentices and as a result have increased tenant satisfaction, which is one of our key goals."

The Editor of Inside Housing, Stuart Macdonald, said: "The housing sector is characterised by the commitment, passion and flair of the people who work in it. They are dedicated, innovative and creative individuals and teams. That's why we run these awards – to shine the spotlight on those 'unsung heroes' so others can learn from them. I was amazed by the number of entries we received this year – more than 300 – and the overall calibre. The standard was really high."
