Growing, growing, gone!

10 May 2010

Tenants of The Wrekin Housing Trust have chance to get a FREE potato growing kit as part of an initiative sponsored by the Trust and Vaillant Boilers.

A potato kit
The Trust's Tenants' Panel has purchased around 150 potato growing kits, using money put into the Trust's Tenant Panel fund, which was created by Vaillant Boilers. Vaillant has given control of the funds to the Tenants' Panel, with the only condition that the money must be spent in the community for the benefit of Trust tenants. Vaillant will continue to add to the fund on a regular basis.

The potato growing kits contain 15 potato tubers, 1 pair of potato cleaning gloves and 3 salad/vegetable seed packs. 3 re-useable potato grow bags are provided, along with a bag of compost, so tenants don't need to have a vegetable plot and no digging is required.

Chair of the Tenants' Panel, Len Harley says: "We think Trust tenants will enjoy these potato growing kits, as 'grow your own' is very fashionable at the moment and potatoes are always popular. The kits are easy to use, as no digging, hoeing or strenuous work is required, and the potatoes can be grown in a small area such as on a patio or balcony.

We hope the growing kits will be something that all the family can enjoy. Growing your own vegetables is a great pastime, with many positive benefits such as being outdoors in the fresh air and eating healthy home-grown food. Children will love being involved too, learning more about where food comes from and how nature works."

Any Trust tenants who would like one of the free potato kits need to contact the Trust on 01952 217201 or email potatoes@wrekinhousingtrust.org.uk. The number of kits available is limited, and will be allocated to the first 150 people who get in touch. The kits will be distributed to the winners via the Trust's local shops.
