Green fingers at the ready as Trust launches gardening competition...
19 April 2010
Do you have a black belt in everything flora and fauna?
Do you know your way round a vegetable patch like the back of your hand?
Do you enjoy being outside with the birds and the bees?
If you answered yes to any of these questions then why not enter the Trust's gardening competition.
We are looking for gardening enthusiasts, amateur or professional, who are looking to showcase their fantastic gardens. If you're proud of your begonias or just want to show off your perfect lawn then all you have to do is take a photo of your garden and send it to us at the Trust.
Don't worry if you don't have a conventional garden you can send us pics of a window box or even a potted plant, just as long as you have grown it yourself.
To enter send your photos to The Wrekin Housing Trust, Colliers Way, Old Park, Telford, TF3 4AW. Alternatively, you can email your pics to us at trust.talks@wrekinhousingtrust.org.uk
The competition will close on Sunday 25 July. A panel of judges will decide on the winner and the winner will be announced in the August edition of Trust Talks.
The winner will receive a range of garden products and vouchers and there will be prizes for first and second runners up too.
Need inspiration?
If you are looking for inspiration then why not take it from a recent project that was carried out by a group of school children from Queenswood School, Ketley, who transformed a derelict garden in Ketley Bank.
The piece of land at the junction of Fourth and Sixth Avenue in Ketley Bank has been lovingly renovated from a disused and untidy wasteland to a beautiful garden by the children and local volunteers alike. In addition to the usual plant and trees there is also a bench for tenants of the local community to sit and relax.
Carol Smith from the Trust said: "All the parties involved have worked extremely hard to transform the land into a lovely garden. The emphasis has very much been on people so we are hoping that more and more tenants from the area will use the garden as if it were their own."
The Trust and its partners would like to thank the following nurseries for providing the plants and trees free of charge. These were Wyvale Garden Centre in Donnington, Springfield Nursery in Cold Hatton Heath, and Oakgate Nursery in Ellerdine Heath.
