We win £4.7 million contract
07 April 2010
The Wrekin Housing Trust has won a contract worth £4.7 million over five years to provide the repairs and maintenance services and gas servicing for Black Country Housing Group.
The Trust has been appointed by BCHG as its new maintenance contractor after local residents gave their seal of approval.
The new contract, which will see The Wrekin Housing Trust provide a high quality repair and maintenance service for all of BCHG's 1,800 homes across Birmingham and the Black Country, was recommended by a steering group that included tenant representatives.
Tipton resident, Lee Whitehouse, who helped BCHG select the new contractor after a competitive tender process, said: "I was really pleased to be able to put forward my thoughts on what residents required from a new maintenance service and also get a chance to evaluate bids. Together with my fellow residents I helped to draw up key questions, listen to tender presentations and talk to people from across the region who currently benefit from the support on offer."
Wayne Gethings, Director of Asset Management at The Wrekin Housing Trust, said: "It's really pleasing to be working with BCHG and implementing a repair and maintenance service that has been developed by tenants for tenants, a true example of tenant led service delivery. The £4.7 million contract spanning the next five years will provide employment and training for local people from across the BCHG geographical area, assisting the local economy."
Bob Gregory, Director of Technical Services at BCHG, said: "The new contract with The Wrekin Housing Trust will provide one dedicated maintenance service for BCHG tenants providing them with a high quality, responsive and reliable service that they can call upon to fix any problems."
As part of the new service, BCHG tenants will be able to call a dedicated phone number to report problems, receive simple maintenance advice over the phone or book an appointment. Confirmation of when repairs will be undertaken can also be sent to tenants by SMS text message.
This is the third significant maintenance contract that the Trust has secured since 2008. It already provides repairs and maintenance services for Waterloo Housing Group and Epic Housing Limited.
