New affordable homes for Newport

Tenants are celebrating after receiving the keys to their new homes in Newport from The Wrekin Housing Trust.

The development in Aston Court is the latest in a long line of developments from the Trust. The Trust is committed to building affordable houses across Shropshire and the new development follows the recent bungalow development that was completed in Newport.

This development has provided 13 new homes, with a mix of apartments and three storey houses. Two of the new houses are available for shared ownership with the others being rented. The land that the new houses are built on was previously a brownfield site. The Trust applied for, and was granted, planning permission to clear the site and build new affordable homes for the Newport area.

The Mayor of Newport, Cllr Adam Stanton, visited the development to officially hand over the keys to Trust Tenants' Panel member Margo Brotherton.

Councillor Stanton said: "This is a fantastic development and a welcome addition to Newport. Affordable housing is much needed in the Newport area and it's great that The Wrekin Housing Trust have acknowledged this and done something about it."

He added "This is a perfect example of how well a brownfield site can be used and developed in the town without using greenfield space."

Kirsty Worthington, one of the happy new tenants said: "I'm really pleased with my new home and can't wait to get settled in."
