Supported Housing open evening
05 November 2008
The Wrekin Housing Trust is opening its doors to potential scheme managers next week, as part of a recruitment drive for supported housing scheme managers.
The first step will be an information evening on Wednesday 12 November, between 6pm and 8pm at the Trust's Old Park offices.
The Trust has 33 sheltered housing schemes across Telford and Newport. These schemes offer people who are over 60, or over 50 and registered disabled, high quality homes, enabling them to live independently, with the added reassurance and security of being able to have contact with a scheme manager. Sheltered housing schemes contain communal facilities such as a communal lounge and laundry, however each flat or bungalow is self-contained.
Scheme managers' responsibilities include supporting sheltered housing residents through daily contact, completing support plans and helping to organise and facilitate social events and activities both on and off the scheme.
Sheltered housing residents and scheme managers will be on hand to have a chat with people interested in finding out more and provide an insight into working in sheltered housing and supporting residents. Refreshments will be provided.
Pamela Edwards, Supported Housing general manager, said: "Supported housing gives older people the opportunity to keep their independence and benefit from being part of a strong community spirit. Being a scheme manager is a very rewarding role, as you get to make a real difference to the lives of older people. I would encourage anyone considering a career in supported housing to come along and find out more."
