New contractor appointed for Park Lane scheme

The Wrekin Housing Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of a main contractor for the Park Lane Extra Care Scheme in Woodside.

Following a tendering period, several contractors were invited to give a presentation at the Trust's Old Park offices. The Trust's Board then reviewed these tenders and presentations, and last night approved the appointment of the preferred contractor.

The successful contractor, McPhillips (Wellington) Ltd, employs nearly 250 people from its base in Hortonwood. Previous projects that McPhillips has delivered to a high standard in the local area include the construction of a new press base at the Shropshire Star's Ketley offices, an 80-bed care home in Shrewsbury, offices and infrastructure at Euston Way, next to Telford Train Station and the groundworks for the new Bucks Head stadium.

George Rushgrove, Director of Business Development at The Wrekin Housing Trust, said: "Following the collapse of the initial contractor, and the resulting unavoidable delays to the construction of the Park Lane Extra Care scheme, we received a lot of interest from other builders and contractors looking to complete the work. As a result of the tendering process, the Trust is pleased to appoint McPhillips, a local employer with strong reputation, as the successful contractor. We look forward to working with McPhillips to deliver the multi-million pound Park Lane Extra care scheme."
