Trust responds to Housing Rescue Package
03 September 2008
The Wrekin Housing Trust has welcomed the Government's announcements to support the housing market, and the additional funding that has been made available for new homes.
The Wrekin Housing Trust is pleased with the new measures, which include opportunities for the organisation to buy-in high-quality properties from private home builders.
The Wrekin Housing Trust has successfully bid for £1.3m grant from the Housing Corporation to enable the provision of a further 48 new affordable homes across Telford and Shropshire. The Trust has also submitted a bid for funding for an additional 59 homes, which will be decided in October.
David Wright, MP for Telford, said: "The Government is committed to helping those most affected by the current state of the housing market. By bringing forward investment in social housing in Telford, it is possible to deliver more decent, affordable housing to address the local demand."
George Rushgrove, Director of Business Development at The Wrekin Housing Trust, added: "The national shortage of housing is a growing problem and housing experts have highlighted the need for more ambitious house building targets to be set by the government. The Wrekin Housing Trust has been playing its part by building new homes to help meet demand and has worked with local and national developers to purchase 82 new homes over the last twelve months.
"This additional funding from the Housing Corporation will allow us to continue to address the demand for housing in the area by delivering a further 48 affordable homes, on top of the 230 we are already working on."
