Housing Trust is example of best practice
27 June 2008
The Wrekin Housing Trust has been cited in a book by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) as an example of best practice in the housing sector.
At their recent annual conference at Harrogate, the CIH unveiled their latest publication, 'Improving Repairs and Maintenance Services'. The book was a joint publication with the Housing Corporation, the governing body for the housing sector.
The Wrekin Housing Trust is used as an example of best practice on three separate subjects in the book, including the award winning Hand-e-Work mobile repairs system, which enables more repairs to be completed by improving efficiency and the Trust's partnership with Travis Perkins, which allows trades force to have quick and easy access to parts and tools so repairs can be completed more quickly.
The book also highlights the Trust's use of Tenant Auditors. The Tenant Auditors are tenants who work with the Trust to monitor the services provided to other tenants to ensure high standards are maintained. The Auditors meet on a regular basis with managers from the Trust to discuss services and any changes that could be made.
The CIH visited the Trust to see first hand the work that is done to ensure that a high quality of service is provided to tenants. This resulted in the Trust being used as a good example in the new book.
Wayne Gethings, Director of Asset Management at The Wrekin Housing Trust said: "We work hard to ensure our tenants - our customers - are getting a service they want and not a technical opinion on what we think they need. It's good to be acknowledged in the publication, which has been recognised nationally across the housing sector, as it demonstrates that creating services with customers drives great service delivery."
