Tenants gets involved in decision making
13 June 2008
The Wrekin Housing Trust has competed its latest improvement work to flats in Wellington after thorough consultation with tenants.
Ashdown Court tenant Ann Woods said: "The improvements that have been made are fabulous and make a big difference to our block. I love living here and the improvements that have been made make it just that little bit nicer."
The Trust has worked closely with the tenants of Ashdown Court in Wellington to improve facilities at the flats. The work was carried out after tenants raised the issue of access to the building as something that needed improving.
The Trust was contacted by tenants from Ashdown Court in relation to the condition of the walkway bridges that served as access ways to their flats from a central staircase. The local management team arranged for a Surveyor to visit and investigate the issues raised.
The Trust worked closely with the tenants to decide what would be the best solution to improve access to the flats. As a result the walkway bridges were completely rebuilt with new windows, roofing and timber flooring, which allowed the tenants to access their flats without concerns for health and safety. The works also included the replacement of the carpeting to the communal stairs and landings and redecoration of the communal areas.
At the same time the Trust undertook the re-carpeting and decoration of a second communal staircase to the flats to minimize the impact the work would have on tenants.
Tenants were also involved in choosing the type of carpet that was used and the colour of paint for the walls. The tenants of Ashdown Court are very happy with the improvement work, due to the high level of involvement they had in the decision making process.
