A chance for green-fingered gardeners to get some glory
09 June 2008
With summer now truly upon us, The Wrekin Housing Trust is giving tenants in south Telford the chance for their horticultural skills to be recognised and rewarded in a special gardening competition.
The competition is open to any Wrekin Housing Trust tenant or leaseholder living in the Stirchley, Madeley, Sutton Hill, Woodside and Brookside areas of Telford and has a number of different categories. There are first, second and third place prizes for: the best front or rear garden, the best vegetable garden, the best hanging basket, planter or window box and the best communal garden.
Anyone wishing to enter the competition should complete and return an application form no later than Friday 20 June. Judging will then take place between 18 – 29 August. Application forms are available from any of The Wrekin Housing Trust's local shops or estate offices in south Telford.
The competition has been suggested and organised by the South Telford Area Representatives (STARs), a group of Trust tenants who are keen to get involved with the Trust and are involved with the ways services are delivered
Janice Diss, customer research consultant for the Trust's south Telford team, said: "Looking after your garden and maintaining it in a reasonable condition is a term of the Trust's Tenancy Agreement. The South Telford Area Representatives decided that they would like to reward people for having nice gardens, so this competition is aimed at encouraging people to get out in their gardens and have fun, at the same time as giving them the chance to win a prize for their hard work."
