That neighbourly spirit…
23 May 2008
To mark National Good Neighbours Day 2008, residents of The Wrekin Housing Trust's Churchway sheltered housing scheme in Stirchley have held their own 'Good Neighbour' competition.
Residents of Churchway sheltered housing scheme, which also includes Catstree and Carwood and totals over 80 homes, completed forms to nominate a neighbour for the award, and gave reasons for their nomination.
Everyone who was nominated was presented with a certificate at a celebration event held at Churchway sheltered housing scheme on Thursday 22 May, and the reasons for their nominations were read out. The event included an afternoon tea, cakes and a raffle.
One resident even nominated their scheme manager, Christina Bailey. They said: "Christina is always a cheerful person. She is polite in any situation where help is needed. Christina responds immediately and cheerfully and has a very pleasant personality." Although Christina was not eligible to win the award, she was very pleased to receive such a glowing nomination.
The overall winner of the Good Neighbour Award 2008 was Cynthia Statham from Churchway. The reasons given for her nomination included: "Cynthia is always pleasant and always a good neighbour" and "Cynthia produces a wonderful newsletter every month, she's great".
"What a wonderful surprise," said Cynthia, "Thank you so much to everyone who nominated me."
Scheme manager Christina Bailey, who presented the awards said: "Congratulations to everyone who was nominated. Twice as many people were put forward for the award this year compared to last year, which just goes to show how strong the neighbourly community spirit is here at Churchway."
