Lawndale supports the County Air Ambulance

22 May 2008

Residents from The Wrekin Housing Trust's Lawndale sheltered housing scheme in Donnington have been raising money to support the County Air Ambulance, and presented the charity with a cheque recently.

Presenting the cheque
Nigel Davies, Flight Paramedic with the County Air Ambulance, went along to Lawndale sheltered housing scheme earlier this week (Monday 19 May), and was presented with a cheque for £430 by the residents and their families.

Of this money, £100 was raised through a 'Name the Cuddly Toy' competition and £100 was raised by a fundraising sale.

The remaining money was raised by the family of Mrs Mary Roberts, who lived at Millward Close and passed away recently. Mrs Roberts' daughters, Jean Catstree and Gail Mansell, asked for people to make donations to the County Air Ambulance, rather than bring flowers to their mother's funeral. Both Jean and Gail were on hand to present the cheque.

Nigel Davies, who received the cheque on behalf of the County Air Ambulance, said: "On behalf of the charity, thank you very much. We need to constantly raise funds to keep the air ambulance flying, and every penny that is raised goes towards keeping the helicopter in the air and saving lives."

Margaret Phillips, scheme manager at Lawndale Court, which also covers Barclay Court and Millward Close, said: "We're really pleased Nigel came along today. He gave a very interesting talk to the residents about the air ambulance and his experiences in general. The residents here really believe in the value of the service the air ambulance provides, and are always looking for ways to help support it by raising funds."
