Trust is example of best practice
25 April 2008
The Wrekin Housing Trust exhibited its award winning mobile repairs system at a prestigious trade event this week.
The Trust's Hand-e-Work system, which enables trades people to work more effectively on location, was one of the main exhibits at the In-Motion exhibition at the Motor Heritage Museum in Gaydon, Warwickshire.
The Trust's ICT team was asked to give presentations on the success they have had with the system they created and answer questions from other housing associations about how those levels of success can be achieved.
The Trust has hosted many best practice visits to allow other organisations to see the system in action. At last year's event the Trust won the Innovative Services Award for the Hand-e-Work system.
The Hand-e-Work system works by sending out repair jobs directly to the hand held devices of the trades people. The system is also linked to the Trust's materials supply partner Travis Perkins, which means the necessary parts required for the repair are ready and waiting for the trades person to collect.
Lawrence Gardner, Head of ICT at the Trust said: "Not only does mobile working provide efficiency savings through less time spent travelling and less paperwork to complete, it has also helped the Trust to deliver an improved repairs service to tenants as turnaround times between jobs are reduced.
"Being asked to present our success story to other housing associations at the InMotion 2008 conference as an example of good practice highlights the efforts we have made to deliver an efficient and effective mobile working solution, with real benefits to both our operatives and our tenants."
