Bonny bonnets for Easter
20 March 2008
To celebrate Easter, residents at two of The Wrekin Housing Trust's sheltered housing schemes have made Easter bonnets and held competitions to find the best ones.
Residents at Apley Court in Apley, and Margaret Court in Ketley used their arts and crafts skills to create a selection of Easter bonnets for judging.
At Margaret Court, residents made bonnets and a buffet tea, and invited local councillor Hilda Rhodes to come along and judge the competition. Cllr Rhodes chose the best three bonnets and presented the winners with Easter gifts.
June Storey won first prize, with Sally Mason and Kath Harrison taking second and third places respectively.
At Apley Court, Reverend Peter Clarke, from Wellington Methodist Church, held a special Easter Service in the scheme's communal room, before choosing the winning bonnet. The winning bonnet was created by Rita Wilson, with Barbara Farmer winning second prize and Jean Rolt taking third.
Sally Mason, scheme manager at Margaret Court, said: "Residents here at Margaret Court really enjoy putting their arts and crafts skills to use in making Easter bonnets for the competition. They also prepared the wonderful buffet that everyone enjoyed in the afternoon."
Jo Capsey, scheme manager at Apley Court, added: "It's rewarding to see everyone getting involved in the bonnet competition and having fun at the same time. We're really grateful to Reverend Clark for taking the time to come along, give a service and judge the competition."
