Resident involvement championed at the Trust
20 March 2008
Employees of The Wrekin Housing Trust have turned into "Champions of Respect" to increase resident involvement in the West area of the region.
The Trust believes that resident involvement and having respect for those around you are closely linked and will be implementing a series of initiatives to increase awareness of them.
The Trust signed up to the government led Respect Standard for Housing Management in 2006 and is committed to effectively dealing with anti social behaviour in the community.
Each Trust shop will have a "Respect and Resident Involvement Champion" who will be responsible for promoting community events and encouraging tenants to get involved in shaping the future of their area. Regular meetings will be held to give tenants a chance to express their views on where they live. Estate walkabouts will also give tenants the chance to tour the area with employees from the Trust and other organisations to highlight any issues there may be and discuss the best way of tackling them.
Martin James, Service Development Manager at the Trust, said: "The Wrekin Housing Trust is committed to involving residents and are keen to work with local communities to help improve the quality of life for our customers. We are always looking for creative ways to get people involved in the work we do and welcome any ideas that people have. Forming successful relationships with key partners and working together to address issues is essential and we aim to continue to develop these partnerships throughout 2008 and contribute to the aims of the Respect Standard for Housing Management."
