Trust receives £58 million funding boost for new homes

The building of new homes to give more people a step onto the housing ladder, plus more specialist housing for older people, will be given a much-needed boost across Shropshire and Staffordshire.

Last year, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) opened bidding to the Shared Ownership and Affordable Homes Programme 2016 to 2021 through publication of a prospectus. The programme aims to increase the supply of Shared Ownership and other affordable homes in England by March 2021.

Organisations were invited to bid for funding, and The Wrekin Housing Trust has successfully taken the largest allocation of funding for building new homes across the two counties, netting £58 million in total.

Jean Teichmann, Head of Development for the Trust said "The allocation will enable us to provide an additional 1,332 affordable new homes, which will be delivered between 2018 and 2023 across Shropshire and Staffordshire. This is great news for the two counties and means we can provide even more much-needed new homes through our already very proactive development programme, plus all the knock on positive effects of supporting the local economy with the new jobs that will be created."
