Tenants are diamond friends

Tenants of Wrekin Retirement Living apartments in Shrewsbury have donated an impressive £500 to a dementia drop in service which is held at their scheme.

Lindale Court in Shrewsbury hosts Age UK’s regular Diamond Drop in; which helps people with dementia and their carers by offering a place to relax, chat and have fun.

The money was raised through a table top sale and cream tea event held in memory of friend and fellow tenant Barbara English who sadly died earlier in the year. Barbara worked as a volunteer for Age UK and enjoyed helping at the drop- in.

Neil Brookes from Age UK said; “We are thrilled to receive this money and will put it to good work continuing our dementia support groups in Shrewsbury, both at Lindale Court and Forrest Way. We aim to help people who are caring for loved ones and may be feeling isolated. If anyone would like to come along please get in touch.”

Sharon Wakeling Retirement Living Coordinator for The Wrekin Housing Trust says; “There is a great sense of community at Lindale Court. Our tenants live independently in their own apartments but have use of a community room which offers space for events and our wellbeing activities. It’s fantastic to see everyone come together and support the drop-in.”

Fundraiser and tenant Derrick Goodall says; “I love living here. My apartment is lovely and peaceful but my social life is busy thanks to all the events and trips that I’m able to join in with. I volunteer at the drop-in so I’m delighted with the amount we raised.”

Retirement Living tenants also enjoy a same day repairs service from the Trust, have a dedicated co-ordinator and use of a Money Matters service which offers financial advice. Anyone interested in an apartment can contact Sharon on 01743 369316 to find out more. The Diamond drop-in runs fortnightly and to book a space you can call Jenny Smith or Neil Brookes on 01743 233123.
