First Trust residents at Prescott Court receive their keys

There is excitement in the air at one development in North Shropshire as the first Trust residents pick up the keys to their new homes.

One of the first residents to move into a house at Prescott Court in Baschurch is Francesca Weaver and her two-year-old daughter Sienna. They are in a property owned and rented out by The Wrekin Housing Trust, and Francesca said she already feels part of the community.

“We lived with my mum and stepdad in Wem, who were very supportive, but I was keen to have my own place,” she said. “I had the keys a few weeks ago and because it was a new property I decided to get the flooring down and curtains up before moving any furniture in, and that way Sienna can explore and enjoy her new home right from day one.”

There are 19 new homes at Prescott Court making good use of the site of the former Prescott Equestrian Centre, which closed last year. Four of the homes have been purchased from the builders by The Wrekin Housing Trust, to meet the need for affordable housing in the local area. One home is rented and three properties are shared ownership. In fact there is one shared ownership two bedroomed house still available – anyone interested can phone 01952 217103 or visit the Trust’s website for more details.

Francesca said: “The house is great because it has a lovely back garden, where I can put a slide and swing for Sienna. Also the front has a fence around it, which will stop Sienna from running out onto the road and also looks really attractive. The downstairs is open plan, and I love this because Sienna can always see where I am – and I can watch her easily as well. The house has a nice airy, free-flowing feel to it, especially with the French doors, which lead out to the garden.”

Baschurch family

Francesca, who works as a local hairdresser, said she already feels like part of the community as everyone in the village is so friendly. “Baschurch is so friendly I feel like I have been here for years,” she said. “My neighbours are really friendly and came over to introduce themselves when I first moved in, and they wave as they pass the house. There are children living in the street and it is nice to think that Sienna will be able to play out when she is older.”

Carol Denning, area manager for The Wrekin Housing Trust, said she was pleased to hear that Francesca was happy with her new home. “The homes we have at Prescott Court are our first in Baschurch and it is great to have a base in this attractive village. The properties we have on this site are fantastic with good sized rooms, gardens and space for parking. Shops and a range of facilities are within walking distance from the site, and it is also close to the towns of Shrewsbury and Wem. Prescott Road is one of a number of schemes the Trust has in Shropshire, providing much-needed affordable homes for rent.”
