Coddon Club first phase of new homes complete

The first phase of homes on the popular site of a former working men's club is now complete and fully let, with new residents starting to move in.

The Trust has redeveloped the former Coddon Club in Donnington in a joint venture with developer Wonderful Homes; once complete it will provide 37 one, two and three bedroom homes for local people. The transformed site will also provide homes for local nature, featuring state-of-the-art bricks and boxes to attract house martins, swifts and bats to the new development.

After approaching and working with the Trust and developer Wonderful Homes, Mr Mansell, 74, moved in to his new home yesterday, having lived in a three-bedroom house adjacent to site. He said: "I'm so happy to have moved into a smaller two bedroom house as it is easier to look after. My priority as I get older is convenience. Dealing with The Wrekin Housing Trust has been a Godsend; everyone has been so friendly and easy to work with. I'm chuffed because I love the location and didn't want to have to move away; now I'll be right next door, still able to use the bus stop over the road and close to family and friends, perfect!"

The demolition of Mr Mansell's old home will take place shortly to make way for Phase 2 of the development, providing eight one, two and three bedroom houses with work due to be complete by the summer.

The Coddon Club site is in a great location on the Trench Road, close to all amenities such as supermarkets, doctors and dentists.

Sarah Bradshaw, Project Manager for The Wrekin Housing Trust's Development team, said: "The homes that we are completing in Donnington are part of our development programme to meet the need for affordable homes across the county, and it's great to see the plans become a reality. We are on site with another eight new homes on Phase 2 and look forward to seeing the rest of the homes completed shortly."
